Formed by Our Industry, for Our Industry
The SubOptic organisation exists to promote, foster debate, exchange ideas and act as an educational resource for the entire submarine telecommunications community.
With its first convention held in 1986, SubOptic is a non-profit, mutual, non-incorporated international organisation. It is steered and sponsored by leading members of the community. However, it is open to every level of our industry, from those who manufacture cables and their components to purchasers of cable networks and system capacity to business analysts and investors.
The governance of SubOptic is exercised by an Executive Committee operating under a Constitution and By-Laws. Its membership has varied since its formation from between 14-16 member companies, representing the various strands of our community. The membership changes between each conference cycle, reflecting the changing composition of our community. This allows the EC’s membership to reflect the changing realities of our industry and new members are encouraged to apply.
The EC is chaired by a President elected from one of its member organisations. This role is currently undertaken by Fiona Beck, President and CEO of Southern Cross Cable Network.
The EC is supported by John Horne, who acts as the Secretary to the organisation and has been in this role since 2001.
